So, just to summarize, if you or someone else were to make a mod that overhauled the Honorhall Orphanage quests for roleplaying purposes, you wouldn't have to interact with Aventus at all in order to get Constance to take over the Orphanage, and killing Grelod should not be the only way to remove her from her position as head of the Orphanage. I think it would be best if a guard actually hauled her to prison. Grelod will attack the guard and he will kill her. What I don't like, however, is that the end result is ultimately the same. It allows you to report Grelod to a guard, who will then confront her.
I like how another mod handles it, Innocence Lost Alternative. Death via heart attack is kind of dumb, in my opinion. I feel that for the children to attribute this to a Dark Brotherhood assassin is quite nonsensical and breaks immersion. They'll say things like "Aventus did it" and "He got the Dark Brotherhood to kill Grelod the Kind!" The issue with this is, in the aforementioned mod, she dies from a Heart attack. As mentioned above, the children cheer after Grelod dies. The only way the player would even know about Aventus wanting Grelod dead at this point is either if you've spoken with him already, or after hearing the children cheer and talk about him after Grelod dies. In order for Constance to take over the Orphanage, you have to report Grelod's death to Aventus. This mod somewhat accomplishes this, however there are some things that I would label as. ( For Moral Characters) Implement a way to adopt children at the Honorhall Orphanage without speaking with Aventus. ( For Immoral Characters) Implement an Oblivion Style Dark Brotherhood initiation, where simply murdering an innocent individual is all it takes to attract a member of the Dark Brotherhood to seek you out and offer a place in the Dark Brotherhood. If you are considering adding more roleplaying options to the Dark Brotherhood, here's a few ideas for you: Getting attacked by assassins would provoke a reaction, and this mod actually provides a means of acting on it. I'm really happy that your mod rectifies that by adding a far more sensical route. Getting more information about the Dark Brotherhoodī. The issue with this though, is that it relies heavily on metagaming, as it's highly unlikely that your character would even know that completing Aventus' Dark Brotherhood contract would lead to either:Ī. If you're playing as a morally good character, you have no choice but to pose as a Dark Brotherhood Assassin and murder an old lady (albeit a real evil one) in order to destroy the Dark Brotherhood. The Dark Brotherhood introduction has bothered me so much for years now, it's extremely difficult to roleplay around it.
